Creating Polygon Solids for Archaeology

This is our first stab creating polygon shapes to represent Loci and Architectural features.

  1. Create a ShapeFile that contains the points for the top and another shape file that contains the points for the bottom of the feature. These must overlap.

  2. Create a Tin for each of the shape files above.
  3. CreatePolygonOutline of the tin file (This just needs to overlap both bottom and top. You can use a multi-polygon file if you want to cut shapes out of the tins, but I just use one that overlaps both in the XY extents).

  4. Use 3D Analyst Tools, TIN Surface, Extrude between, to form the solid.
